Chlorinators and salt cells · Coffs Coast
Chlorinator repairs and salt cell replacement, done once.
If the pool will not hold chlorine, the answer is not always a new unit. Matt tests the water, inspects the cell and checks the controller before recommending a repair, a cell or a full replacement.
$0 callout fee for the assessment. Parts, chemicals and completed work are quoted separately.
Common signs
When it is worth a look.
- Chlorine reading low no matter how long it runs
- Low salt, low flow or check-cell warnings on the display
- Heavy scale, flaking plates or a discoloured cell
- Control unit buttons or display failing
- A sanitation system too small for the pool or bather load
What Matt checks
The whole system, not one part.
- Full water test including salt, stabiliser and balance
- Cell condition, output and remaining life
- Control unit function, settings and run times
- Flow through the cell and the rest of the circulation
- Sanitation capacity against pool size and usage
Repair or replace
A cell is cheap. Replacing the wrong thing is not.
Plenty of chlorinator complaints turn out to be water balance or run time, not hardware. Matt separates the two, then recommends the smallest fix that solves it properly. Cells, units and completed work are quoted separately.

Questions we get asked.
- How long does a salt cell last?
- Typically three to seven years depending on run time, water balance and how well it has been cleaned. A cell that scales constantly is usually near the end.
- Why is my pool not holding chlorine?
- It can be a worn cell, low salt, poor stabiliser levels, high bather load or a control unit out of calibration. Matt tests rather than assumes.
- Can I just replace the cell instead of the whole unit?
- Often yes, and that is the cheaper answer when the control unit is sound. Matt will tell you when a cell swap is enough and when the whole system is past it.
